Sailpast at Seafest

Hi everyone, just a friendly reminder on two thing, one being the Sailpast and the other on having a safe summer. On Sunday, 12th June, we muster at the PRRYC (Cow Bay) at 1100 hours. Channel 14 on the VHF, the organizer is the "Beachmaster". Please get your forms e-mailed in, in case the PO goes on strike. It is the farewell to the Point Henry as well, so please turn up to show her respect for jobs well done, she will be decommissioned later this year. Also, of course, the blessing of the fleet, some of us, like Steve, for example, really need this blessing! In the matter of safety, I heard with sadness today of an incident in two commercial troller acquaintances of mine. You have seen this troller in Prince Rupert many times over the years, I am sure, the "Ocean Gem". Cetoled in butternut, quite distinctive. Fred and Elaine were starting their fishing season by going out early to the West coast of the Charlottes and enjoying a few days beachcombing before their season started. I am not aware of all the details, but their skiff capsized, she made it to the beach, Fred didn't. She was on the beach for 7 days before someone came along! Think on that for a moment, a quiet trip to the beach, going to get some treasures, it ends up with the death of her husband and 7 days on a cold beach with nothing, absolutely nothing! I implore you all to be extra careful this summer, please entertain the thought of purchasing a SPOT, if you like, I can demonstrate with mine, my wife has one as well. It was $69- each and $100- each every year for the sattelite fee, well worth it. What is a SPOT? It is a personal E-PIRB. You carry it in your pocket and anywhere in the world you have - as many "I'm OK messages" to your family as you want to send and the 911 feature, which gets the best help to you quickly in an emergency situation - land, sea or air.
